The same high left parasternal view as Video 20.9, with color Doppler applied to the image, antegrade systolic flow and retrograde diastolic flow are easily appreciated. Without surgical intervention, the balance and antegrade and retrograde flow can change as pulmonary vascular resistance drops creating a “steal” from the systemic circulation. For this reason, a surgical intervention (either a Norwood procedure or a hybrid procedure) is generally warranted within the first few days of life.
